Our Beliefs
The Church that Jesus Built:
Jesus questioned His disciples regarding who they thought He was. Peter responded by saying that Jesus was "...the Christ, the Son of the Living God." Jesus commended Peter's confession and stated, "...on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it" (Matthew 16:16,18). Jesus is the rock "the cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord..." (Ephesians 2:20). The church is built on the solid "rock" truth that Jesus is the Son of God.
The Church that is "Called Out":
In the New Testament the Greek word that is used for church means "calling out" or a meeting-- especially a religious gathering. This emphasizes people rather than a building or place. The word church is commonly used today to describe a place of worship; however, it is God's people who are the church. The church is God's people who are "called out" from among the people of the world to be a holy congregation. Peter told the members of the church that God "called you out of darkness into His wonderful light" to be "a holy nation." (1 Peter 2:9).
Cleansing and Renewing:
Those who make up the church are those who have been cleansed of their sins by the sacrificial blood of Jesus. According to Acts 22:16 we are cleansed when we submit to being baptized. When God cleanses He places His Spirit within the heart, making that person "his own possession" (Romans 8:16). Renewal comes about from the repentance of sins and the cleansing power of Christ. When we become a Christian we are a "new creation" according to 2 Corinthians 5:17.
